How to Manage Your Ads With Cursor (And Where You'll Hit the Ceiling)
*This is Part 2 in our series on managing ads with AI coding tools. If you came from our Claude Code post, you already know the install patterns — this one covers the Cursor-specific setup, including how MCP wiring differs.*
You're in Cursor. You've got a campaign that's bleeding budget and you want answers now — not in a browser tab, not in a dashboard, not in a meeting. You want to ask your IDE.
That instinct is right. The tooling is almost there. This post covers three open-source repos that get you close, exactly where each one stops, and what to do when close isn't enough.
Can Cursor Manage Google Ads Campaigns?
Yes — with caveats. Cursor supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) natively. That means you can connect it to any MCP-compatible server and query ad data, run audits, or get recommendations directly in your editor. The three repos below take different approaches: skills-based strategy, deep integration breadth, and audit depth. None of them give you live cross-platform data out of the box.
First, a quick note on config. Cursor uses `.cursor/mcp.json` — not `claude_desktop_config.json` like Claude Code. The JSON structure is identical. The file location is not. Keep that straight before you spend 20 minutes debugging a working config in the wrong place.
The Three Repos Worth Your Time
1. marketingskills — coreyhaines31/marketingskills
21.4k stars · MIT
npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskillsThis is the one that works with Cursor natively. It also works with Codex, Claude Code, and Windsurf — anything using the Agent Skills spec. Install it once and it drops into your agent workflow.
The `paid-ads` skill covers Google, Meta, LinkedIn, and X. There's also `ad-creative` for creative direction and `analytics-tracking` for measurement setup. The strategy layer here is solid. Ask it to structure a campaign, map out an audience, or think through a creative brief — it handles that well.
Where it stops: It has no live data connection. It will tell you how to structure a campaign. It will not tell you what your actual ROAS is right now. It cannot merge data across platforms. You're working with its training and your context, not your real account numbers.
Use this when you want to think through strategy without switching apps. Don't use it when you need real numbers.
2. openclaudia-skills — OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills
386 stars · MIT
npx openclaudia install google-ads meta-adsThis is the deepest integration list in open-source marketing skills. 62+ modular skills covering Google Ads, Facebook/Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, A/B testing, SemRush, Ahrefs, SerpAPI, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console. If you're already wired into any of those tools, this slots in without much friction.
The modular install is genuinely useful. You don't have to pull in everything — grab the skills that match your stack.
Where it stops: Each platform is its own connection, its own context, its own auth. There is no unified cross-platform view. You can get Google Ads data and Meta Ads data — just not merged. And your revenue data still lives in Shopify (or wherever), not here. You're stitching manually.
Use this if you have existing API connections to SEMrush or Ahrefs and want to extend them into Cursor. The breadth is real. The synthesis isn't.
3. claude-ads — AgriciDaniel/claude-ads
2.6k stars · MIT
This one was built primarily for Claude Code, but it ships an MCP server that Cursor can connect to. That distinction matters for setup. In Claude Code, it's a native plugin install. In Cursor, you wire it manually via `.cursor/mcp.json`:
{
"mcpServers": {
"claude-ads": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "claude-ads-mcp"],
"env": {
"GOOGLE_ADS_API_KEY": "your-key-here",
"META_ACCESS_TOKEN": "your-token-here"
}
}
}
}Once connected, you get 250+ checks across 7 platforms: Google, Meta, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, Microsoft, and Apple. That is the most comprehensive audit scope of any open-source tool in this space.
Where it stops: Manual MCP wiring in Cursor takes longer than the native Claude Code install — expect to spend time on auth per platform. More importantly, claude-ads is a retrospective auditor. It looks back at what happened. It does not monitor in real time or alert you when something breaks.
Use this for structured audits — before a big spend push, after a campaign ends, as part of a monthly review. Don't expect it to catch a budget spike at 2am.
The Honest Ceiling All Three Share
Here's what none of these repos solve:
No merged cross-platform data. Google + Meta + TikTok performance in one view — that requires an actual data layer. None of these tools provide it.
No live monitoring. Retrospective analysis is useful. It is not a real-time alert when your CPA doubles.
No single auth flow. Every platform is a separate key, a separate connection, a separate headache. As you add platforms, the maintenance burden grows.
No revenue reconciliation. Your Shopify or Stripe revenue data doesn't live in any of these repos. Blended ROAS requires connecting that data to your ad spend. That's a pipeline problem, not a prompt problem.
These repos are genuinely useful for what they do. The ceiling is architectural, not a quality issue.
When You Need More: AdBliss MCP in Cursor
AdBliss ships an MCP server built for exactly the gap above — live cross-platform data, merged and queryable from your IDE.
Drop this into `.cursor/mcp.json`:
{
"mcpServers": {
"adbliss": {
"url": "https://mcp.adbliss.io/mcp"
}
}
}AdBliss uses OAuth — a browser window opens on first use to authorize your account. No API key to manage.
Once connected, Cursor can answer:
- •Blended ROAS across Google Ads and Meta Ads in a single query
- •Creative fatigue signals before CTR drops — not after
- •Budget reallocation recommendations based on cross-platform performance
- •CPA alerts when a campaign breaks threshold
One connection. One auth. Three platforms in one context.
AdBliss is free to start — no credit card required. Free tier includes 50 API calls and 3 AI recommendation runs per month. The Starter plan is $30/month for 2,000 API calls and 50 AI runs.
